Outlook & RPC over HTTP within TS

Hi, everybody.....

I know you can't use Outlook in cached mode on TS, but I've got a client
whose Exchange server is hosted by their parent company (accessible via
RPC/HTTP and OWA only, and I'm installing W2003 TS for their remote/branch
office users.

Within the TS session the users will definitely need mail access for
integration with their document management s/w, but if I'm not mistaken,
there's nothing besides OWA they can use, right?

Just hoping (rather vainly) that someone's figured out a fancy way to make
RPC over HTTP/Outlook Anywhere an option via TS.

(& no, IMAP/POP3/whatnot are not options...even if the parent company opened
this up, which they won't, I'd never support it!)

Hi,

Outlook 2007 using Outlook Anywhere to connect to Exchange
2007 works fine under TS 2003.

Ah, that's good to know. That's true on W2003 TS?

However, it won't help us - I should've mentioned that the parent company's
using E2003 and won't be changing that anytime soon. I didn't think there
were many options for us with the current config, but thought it would be
good to check - OWA may have to suffice (with a lot of manual cutting &
pasting)

Hi,

I have not tested Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2003 running
under TS 2003 against Exchange 2003 using RPC over
HTTP for the transport. My suspicion would be that at
least Outlook 2007 would work (the only difference is the
backend and my understanding is that Outlook 2007
works with ex2003). As far as Outlook 2003 I don't
know why that would not work either but of course I
need to test to be certain.

If they have software assurance for exchange 2003 and/or
Office then they would have the rights to use Outlook 2007,
and if not there is a good chance that Outlook 2003 will
work. Outlook 2007 runs fine alongside older versions
of Office so there is no need to force an upgrade to 2007
just for Outlook.

If I get a chance in the next week or so I will test Outlook
2003 connecting to Exchange 2003 via http running under
TS.

I'd presume it wouldn't because it requres cached mode. Not sure why 2007
would be different but it would be swell if it were....

That would be great - I'll keep poking my head in here. I can't install
Outlook 2007 on that server right now for various reasons. :-|
