We recently installed a test 2008 server with Terminal Services along with
all the terminal services roles. One thing that interests us the most is the
TS RemoteApp functionality.

We currently use a third party app that sits on top of a 2K3 TS server that
has a web portal where we control users access to programs, users can see the
programs we want them to see.

The TS RemoteApp web portal is a great addition that would allow us not to
need the third party software, however as far as we can tell there is no
capability to restrict access to certain programs we publish, as soon as you
publish an app anyone that can get to the remote app web portal can launch
the programs.

The question is: Is there a mechanism to only allow certain users to access
certain applications? We will be using this internally so people would have
domain rights already, but can we restrict which programs they can see or
use??

any ideas would be great.

thanks

No, that feature isn't in Win2008. The best I can offer is to have
different sets of apps on different TSs, and point separate TS Web Access
web parts to the different TSs.

We just released a freeware tool named RemoteApp Filter for the very
same purpose.

What is RemoteApp Filter?

RemoteApp Filter is an extension to the TS Web Access feature provided
by Microsoft in its new Windows 2008 Server. RemoteApp Filter make it
possible to filter out applications that are not supposed to be shown
to particular users or groups of users.

The home page for this tool is:
http://www.tsfactory.com/page.php?mode=privateview&pageID=49

This tool is absolutely free for all and may become a nice addition
for many deployments of TS Web Access.
