Hi,

I really, REALLY need some help here. I'm writing from my laptop but the
problem relates to my desktop (my main rig!) a dell dimension 8400 Pentium 4
3.2gHZ, 1.5gb ram which runs windows xp home SP 2. My security set up is
comodo 2.4 firewall, NOD2.7 AV and AVG anit virus (Paid version with resident
shield). I never have had a virus and AVG catches the very occasional trojan.
My browser is mozilla.

Anyway, the story runs as follows. I installed some software for my iriver
mp3 player called iriverplus. I did so from the cd provided with the mp 3
player.. Almost imediately my computer began to crash. (It first crashed
while I was trying to join the iriver forum site in order to get some advice
re the software). I've never had the BSD, but the screen was blue and said
that there had been a system error and memory dump was beginning. Anyway, on
restarting it happened again. So uninstalled the software and started to run
a virus scan with NOD. The blue screen and memory dump began again. I
restared and tried a scan with AVG anti spy. Same thing.

OK then I booted to safe mode and tried these things, and still the machine
kept crashing.

Still in safe mode, I then decided to use my acronis true image 9 back up of
my OS and programs which I made only a week ago. I tried a few times and
failed, and eventually it to started to blue screen.

Then I decided to transfer some files that I had not saved onto my external
drive, but when opening my computer, my computer crashed.

So now I am totally clueless. I don't run system restore, but rely on
acronis, which I can't access (even with the bootable cd).

As a last resort, maybe I should put a new HD into my computer and try to
use acronis to open the OS and programs image there. Or more drastically get
a new HD and reinstall windows, acronis etc.

Before I do this, does anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance for any advise.

Re: XP keeps crashing even in safe mode

Please post copies of the Stop Error Reports.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.
