Backups cause server to freeze

I have a 2003 server. I can backup anything locally e.g. from one directory
of the server to another using robocopy or NT backup. However when I try to
back up to either a USB drive on the server with Robocopy or NT backup or
using Veritas onto a tape drive on the server or NT backup or Robocopy to a
remote computer, the backup fails and all users on the network can't log in.
The server is still functional other than it can't see the rest of the
network.

Hi Lineone,

Do you have any errors in your event logs on this server?
Has this ever worked on this server? If yes, have you added any new drivers,
hardware or software since?

Sounds like you don't have a real server, hardware, and/or that you're
not using USB 2.0 devices.
