In Vista, can .wps files be converted to .rtf files as a batch i.e.instead of one at a time?

From helpful advice received in this newsgroup a friend of mine has
successfully converted some of his old Works 4 .wps files in Win95 to
..rtf files in Works 9 in Vista so that they can be read on his new
computer.

But he has done this by opening one .wps file at a time, clicking “save
as” and choosing the .rtf option.

He is delighted by this success. However, he has a few hundred files he
would like to convert from .wps to .rtf format but to do that one at a
time would of course be tedious. If he stores a copy of all his .wps
files on his Vista system is there some way that they could then all be
converted to the .rtf format as a batch? [Presumably the conversion is
not simply a matter of changing the file name extension].

Advice would be very welcome.

Probably best posted to a Works group, it has nothing to do with Vista

To comment on my own question, I have just realised as should have been
obvious to me, that the .wps files have to be opened in my friend’s old
Win95 system as Vista applications can’t read Works 4 .wps files. So my
question reverts to a Win95 one (how to automate conversion from Works 4
..wps to .rtf formats in Win95) which is not a subject for this
newsgroup! Apologies.

I would be surprised if you find an answer to this. It would require some
sort of utility program to do the conversion, and then it needs to be able
to handle a whole folder (or some number of files) at a time to do it
automatically. It is more than just changing the extension.

I'm afraid you will be stuck doing this manually. But since the old
machine is still available, there is no rush. Just do 20, 30 or 50 a day,
or whatever. It might take a couple of weeks, but it will get done.
Consider it something to do in your spare time! :-)
