Windows XP 2003 Media Center Edition SP2.
I am having trouble with svchost.exe and windows update. When starting my
computer, svchost.exe consumes all of the computers capabilities (100%
usage). There are several svchost.exe processes in my Task Manager, but only
one of them uses all of the laptops resources. I usually close this process
so I am able to use the computer.
I tried to update through Windows update which restarts svchost.exe and
again the process utilizes all memory resources of the CPU. With all other
programs closed, Windows Update never updates my computer, even with
svchost.exe running. The yellow update icon in the bottom right hand corner
of the screen says, "Downloading updates: 0%". I receive no errors, but
never receive an update. When attempting an update through
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us I leave
svchost.exe active, try an express update and let it go. The green bar just
scrolls and nothing ever happens.
Does anybody have any suggestions for me?
How may I update my CPU?
Thank you,
Chris
