Terminal Services w/ printers

I log onto a terminal server with a Roaming Profile. There 3 computers people
log onto to access this one program. There is a policy set so the user can't
do basically anything but run the program and go into the printer settings.
My question is when i'm in the terminal server and delete this printer, once
I log off and then log back into the terminal server the printer is back. The
printer that i'm deleting is no longer on the network nor installed on the
computer it was locally hooked up to. I deleted the registry key which holds
the printer setting and it comes back, once I log off and log back on.
Basically any change that I make with in the terminal server while i'm
roaming it will not save. I have administrator rights and a GPO is applied to
the 3 computer but for my username the GPO doesn't apply to me. If I log on
locally I can add and delete a printer and it will save, but for roaming it
reverts back to an old setting. Any answers to this problem?

Client computers: Window XP

Server: Windows Server 2003

RE: Terminal Services w/ printers

Is the printer still setup on your local computer?
How is it displayed in your Printers, does it have a session attached to it?

The printer is not setup on the local client machine nor does the printer
display a session when looking at the settings on the terminal server.
Strange?

RE: Terminal Services w/ printers

Sounds like you use the same profile for client and TS logons. Then
the results become often unpredictable (last write/save operation
wins). Is also known to lead to profile corruption.
Make sure that you define different profiles for client and TS.

RE: Terminal Services w/ printers

\\homesvr\user profiles\tom - For User Profile

\\homesvr\ts roaming profiles\tom - For Terminal Server Profiles

Seems like 2 different profiles. It use to work fine before and now if I add
a printer it will not save nor if I delete a printer it will nto save. Can it
be something in my GPO settings. This is for all users who logon to the 3
computers that are the terminal servers, and this is only happens to the
roaming profile. Once again I state if I change them to local there settings
will save. But I don't want them loging on locally.

Thats makes perfect sense, of course I couldn't see it. I just made the
changes and i'll get back to the newsgroup if its a success.

RE: Terminal Services w/ printers

I also wanted to state that this might not work, because when I look at the
GPO settings --> delegations, my username and a couple of others have the
Apply Group Policy field - Deny is "checked". It might be another cause, but
i'll wait to see if that change has any effect. I tried the gpudate command
at the dos prompt and still i'm getting the same results. Tomorrow i'll post
back to let you know the status.

RE: Terminal Services w/ printers

Ok no need to wait until tomorrow, that was the cause, Vera Noest [MVP]
solved it. Yes!

Right now its holding my settings. I deleted a printer and it stayed. I
added a printer and it stayed. Just curious if the Apply Group Policy field -
Deny is "checked", for my username, why would the GPO be affecting it? Is it
because the OU just has computers in it instead of usernames? So if i'm
roaming and there is no users in the OU which the GPO is being link to, and
i'm one of the users that have the Apply Group Policy field - Deny -
"checked", the GPO will still apply to me because i'm roaming?

If you can answer that or not, thank you very much for the solution to the
problem
