Problem obtaining 64 bit Vista HP

Okay, so I bought Vista HP and after opening realized that it's only the 32
bit version when I wanted the 64 bit. I obviously didn't do enough research
before purchasing, but when at the store noticed that they didn't have any
versions that listed 64 bit, so didn't think it was a big deal. Still, after
opening I found the offer inside to go to the link
www.windowsvista.com/1033/ordermedia and I could purchase the 64 bit version
for a minimal fee.

However, after going to the site, entering my product key, I get the
following:

We're sorry, the following error(s) have occurred:
No Offer Found

I re-read everything that came with my software, as well as all the terms
and conditions I could find only regarding this offer, and couldn't find
anything stating that it was a limited time offer, or any other reason that I
would not be able to take advantage.

Any ideas?

Re: Problem obtaining 64 bit Vista HP

If, as I suspect, your version of Vista is OEM, it is not eligible for the
minimal fee version. I am surprised that it would have been included with
your product. Did you receive a Vista install disk or a restore disk with
your system?

Re: Problem obtaining 64 bit Vista HP

Actually, I built the system quite awhile back and had been running XP on it.
I purchased a full retail version of Vista HP w/SP1 from Best Buy yesterday,
not the upgrade version since I had to go from XP.

Re: Problem obtaining 64 bit Vista HP

I suspect that the Vista media is temporarily unavailable while the site
restocks with SP1 dvd's. Remember, SP1 just released for general public
availability a week ago.

Try again in a day or two or use the Contact Us link. There is no problem
about your being entitled to an x64 dvd if you bought any retail (upgrade or
standard) sku of Vista. It is probably just a manufacturing delay with the
new dvd's.

If you know anyone with an x64 dvd there is no problem using to install with
your product key.

All Vista Home Basic, Vista Home Premium, and Vista Business contain only
the x86 dvd with instructions on how to order the x64 dvd. You did not buy
the wrong item. Only Vista Ultimate comes with both dvds.

Re: Problem obtaining 64 bit Vista HP

Thanks, Colin. I'll give it another try in a couple of days then. It just
had me a little worried that I was missing something and wouldn't be able to
take advantage of the 64 bit software.

Thanks again!

Re: Problem obtaining 64 bit Vista HP

That should certainly be eligible. Sorry I confused HP for Hewlett Packard.
It should have been obvious. I would certainly try again. Ultimate is the
only one that includes both disks in the initial purchase.

Re: Problem obtaining 64 bit Vista HP

Just to update..I tried this again, and still no luck, so called Microsoft's
customer support. After providing him the number off of the actual DVD, he
told me that, in fact, I had an OEM version! I know that there wasn't
anything on the stores display stating it's OEM, checked the package, my
receipt, and even went to Best Buy's website and checked out all of the
product information. None of it states anywhere that it's OEM. I sent them
an e-mail to see if this is a standard practice, if it may have been
mispackaged, and if they're willing to refund or replace with the proper
product due to this. I am not eligible for Best Buy or Microsoft's standard
return policy since I already opened the software, but am hoping that they'll
make some kind of exception since I don't think that there was proper
advertisement that this was OEM software. I'll let you know what I find out.

Re: Problem obtaining 64 bit Vista HP

Go back to Best Buy and see what they will do. AFAIK Best Buy does not sell
system builder media kits (OEM) on their retail shelves. Sorry to hear you
are having this problem.
