've heard from a friend that there's a service pack for .net 2.0. I'm not
sure what the official channel for hearing about such things is, but anyway
he told me and I want it. After a bit of searching I found:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ED-04EB-471E-8A99-3C61D19A4C5A&displaylang=en

but it clearly states:

Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows XP

I've tried this, in case the description is wrong, but no joy.

I can't find any support for Vista Ultimate 64. Does such a thing exist?

Alex,
Vista x64 has .NET Framework 3.0 embedded into its installation and is
retro-compatible with v2.0.
You will surely want to download .NET Framework 3.5 instead, with all the
updates from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6
Note that the small download (2.7MB) is just the bootstrapper for the web
installation.
If you want the whole package, go here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/0/f/60fc5854-3cb8-4892-b6db-bd4f42510f28/dotnetfx35.exe
