RE: KB892130 Failure with Parallels on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

I skipped right to option 4 and it worked perfectly. I was running XP on my
Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) using Parallels 3.0 on my MacBook Pro. I have been
using and updating my windows without any problems until a couple of weeks
ago. I even had an odd problem with Internet Explorer 6. When I went to
microsoft.com it would open a window in Firefox and MS won't let me update
through Firefox anymore. I kept getting errors from MS Update that all my
installs would fail. I was going in circles. I then updated to IE 7 and that
stopped microsoft.com from opening in Firefox.

I was able to individually install the Windows Installer 3.1 (which was
failing before the validation tool). I just downloaded the redistributable
from microsoft.com I don't know how PsExec is supposed to be used but I
simply ran it from my Command Prompt (Run>cmd) and typed psexec
c:\windows\...\update.exe and KA-PLOW it worked. Thank you David.

For those of you who don't know how to find the right file with all the
39cd334fg8g9... garbage in the C:\WINDOWS\SoftWareDistribution\download
folder I used a very easy method. Navigate to that folder in Explorer and
then do a basic search for the filename containing KB892130 then right click
on the file and select "Reveal Containing Folder". I then just Copied the
address bar and <Right-Click> select Paste on the command prompt after I
typed 'psexec'. You can't just <ctrl+c> and <ctrl+v> into command prompt. You
can use the right click method without a hitch. In the end my line I entered
in Command Prompt was (all in one line but a space after psexec):
C:\TEMP\psexec
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\65ca1b7ac8fe8237eb48d1b7f5197751\update\update.exe

I hope this helps and gives some hope to any Parallels users too. I have
just noticed that 88 more updates are needed and not working! More
troubleshooting to do. Thanks again David. Because of people like you my
family thinks I can solve anything! Sweet...
