Can I upgrade from Windows ME to Vista? If so, can which software should I
use new software, purchase the back-up software or download from the
website....

Re: Upgrade

No, you will have to clean install. More important though is that I don't
think that a PC currently running Win Me is going to run very Vista very
well if at all. Vista really needs lots of oomph, ideally 2GB or more of
RAM and a decent processor such as a dual core as well as a recent video
card, perhaps a maximum of two years old if you are going to enjoy the
delights (eye candy) that is Aero (this is the Vista graphics interface).

Re: Upgrade

You should also consider, if a lot of your software is as old as your Me, it
will probably not be Vista compatible. The same can be said for your
hardware, like your printer.
Heirloom, old and sticking with XP

Look at PcLinux as a possible operating system upgrade solution, which
is an easy to use Linux.

The community is very helpful.

Windows 2000 is a friendly upgrade to ME.

You are right,

It is however still supported and for me, even if WINME was still
supported, it would still be an upgrade.

It is not supported and it is a recipe for disaster. Windows 2000 does
not upgrade very well from any W9x versions, all of these upgrades are
doomed to eventually fail and it is an upgrade that few of the experts
recommend. Windows XP handles these upgrades much more gracefully than
Windows 2000.
