McAfee you should avoid like the plague. I had to put up with it on a
corporate network once; it was setup by domain policy (so I couldn't
override) to full scan *every* file on *every* read, write, attribute
change, sneeze, sideways glance at, thought about, imagined thought about,
etc. Every file. Even 6Gb VMware image files, 70Gb MySQL database files,
etc. The hard drive light is on solid all day and a 2Ghz box runs like a
300Mhz one. It also has the worst known detection rate of the pop
commercial antivirus products in testing - less than 60% iirc. The free
ClamWin is better for your security.

Norton/Symantec is significantly better for your security, however its
memory footprint is atrocious. Go out and stick a few more Gb of ram in
before using this gargantuan beast! Also as a power user I think its
interface sucks. Probably best left to old people with lots of money for
the ram they need & no IT nouse, whose last virus infection was Influenza
From experience I can recommend Kaspersky Internet Security on Vista x64.
I'm waiting on Eset and F-Secure to make 64-bit versions of their products.
It's always useful to have more than one method of protection.
