Hi all,

I have been having problems running my accounts program (QuickBooks Regular
2006.) Having visited the Intuit website, I reinstalled the software again
as they advised but the problem still remains so I think it is in fact an
issue with Vista instead.

It brings up a dialog box that says "c:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks
Regular\Components\Sales Tax\SalesTax2523.xml" as the title and "This file
does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create
an association in the Set Associations control panel."

I've looked in Control Panel ---> Default Programs on Vista and XML files
don't seem to be associated with any program at all.

Can anybody tell me what they should be associated with?

Many thanks!

Ali

Re: Problem with XML file association

This kbase article can help identify which XML parsers you have.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278674
Quick Books may need one you don't have installed. If you can compare that
with another system using QB, you might find which one you need, and can
register it manually.

regsvr32 <ocx or dll name>

Re: Problem with XML file association

Hi Mark

I downloaded Xmlversion.ext and followed the instructions further on down in
that article, but got the following error from RegSvr32:

"The module XMLVersion.ocx was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer
failed with error code 0x80004005."

Just about to have a search for what that means but in the meantime I have a
folder in Program Files called "MSXML 4.0" - not sure if there's meant to be
anything in it or not but its empty!

I also managed to find out from Intuit's kbase that QuickBooks uses MSXML.
I've done a search on the whole hard disk and can't find anything that looks
remotely like an XML parsing program.

Re: Problem with XML file association

Not much I can tell you about QB, but I found the same empty folder, and I
don't have QB installed.
It needs some file that hasn't been installed. I was guessing you could find
and register it, but obviously I'm not putting you on the track. Unless you
find something in 'perfmon /rel' , I'm out of ideas for you.

Hi MeWivFree,

See if applying the .XML association fix from here helps:
