Windows shortcuts, compuuter un-useable

Starting last night, my keyboard keys started going crazy. Some
stopped working, most others now point to a shortcut rather than a
key. For example, if I type "F" the computer minimizes all windows.
Maybe "C" brings up the Vista search box. I don't know what to do or
how to fix it, it's driving me insane. I'm typing this form another
computer because mine is un-useable.

I first started to notice the problem last night as I was switching
between COD4 multi-player and vent. Some idiot was screaming into vent
so I hit the windows key to mute him and that's when it all started.
First thing I noticed was my "c" button in game used to crouch was no
longer working. Then it snowballed.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

And my specs are:

Vista Ultimate 64
AMD 64 x2 6000+
8GB DDR2 RAM
8600GTS

First, if you haven't rebooted, do so. Try the keyboard in the BIOS section
to see if it works properly pre Windows. Try another keyboard. Reinstall
the driver for the keyboard, if any.

I tried a new KB and it had the same issue. I tried the reboot, same
deal.

Re: Windows shortcuts, compuuter un-useable

Different kind of keyboard? Could be a faulty PS2 connector or faulty USB.
Did the keyboard work in the BIOS section? Do you have a driver installed
for a keyboard or do you use the built in one. You could try running sfc
/scannow to see if it picks up an error (if you can type it in :-)

Re: Windows shortcuts, compuuter un-useable

I havn't tried it, but could you not use charmap and using the mouse paste
it into the 'Run' item in Start Menu if all comes to the worst?

I agree, though, the most important thing right now is to know if the
keyboard works in BIOS Setup.

It is also important to know if the original keyboard is plugged in directly
in the PC connector or if some sort of adapter/converter is used?

Also, I would probably run a complete Virus scan on the entire system before
trying to fix anything.
