S2003 auto-reboot failing to complete.

Server 2003 R2. Headless, with server in cabinet, remote managed.

As its DST today, went round the servers remotely to check the time had
updated correctly.

This one server decided to bug-out drastically the moment I remotely
connected to it. Surprising, as it's never given a single bluescreen in its
4-6 weeks since being built. I strongly suspect a connection with the time
change, but that's another matter.

Anyway, the real issue was that after the automatic reboot, I couldn't get
back into it. Had to abandon my Sunday morning plans, drive to site, get the
thing out of the cabinet and attach a screen/mouse to see what was 'up' with
the thing.

There was a GUI popup onscreen (blank screen, with no desktop loaded)
telling me that "The server had experienced an unexpected shutdown the last
ime it was restarted" or suchlike, and giving some obscure reason - and the
presence of this popup was what was inhibiting the server from properly
completing its restart.

I need to find a way to inhibit this popup, as its presence multiplies by a
factor of ten the problems caused by any unexpected server reboot. Registry,
GPO? Any ideas?

RE: S2003 auto-reboot failing to complete.

Update - found this which looks relevant, although I'm not concerned about
the shutdown logging. Would it also have the effect of nailing the
popup-on-restart problem?

Try using Google as this is a FAQ!

I wasn't aware that Google owned Microsoft.

But, you can never be sure these days...

Fine, if you don't want to learn how to find this information for yourself,
then fine........

bye!

Re: S2003 auto-reboot failing to complete.

Tell me, what do you get out of this?

I suggest you go troll another newsgroup.

Or maybe become a politician, they get plenty verbal masturbation.

Re: S2003 auto-reboot failing to complete.

I notice that no one else has answered your question either, since it was so
easy to find the answer for yourself (it is a FAQ!).

Next time you ask such a simple question, don't be surprised if you don't
get an answer since you have not learnt, and not interested in learning, how
to use the Internet to your advantage.

bye, bye!!

...and exactly WHERE is it a FAQ?

Certainly not in here.

If you read the question, you will see that I am referring to the inability
to regain remote access following an unxpected reboot. The only FAQ I can
find relates to whether you are asked quesions before being allowed to
shutdown. It does not mention this aspect at all.

Plus, I would have thought that in this day-and-age the coder put this
feature in needed to get his brain into gear and _think_ about how servers
are mostly managed these days (remotely) and then realise this was an
incredibly dumb thing to code-in.

Wow! To whom ever replied to this person - you are obnoxious and rude! I certainly hope you do not work on computers for a living or interact with people on a daily basis.

The time it took you to offend the person who posted, you could have just as easily posted the link to the FAQ.

This is a forum - for HELP - not for insulting people.

Next time, just don't bother responding.
