Problems with USB User printing in 2003 TS

Hello,
I have a situation where if I log in to my 2003 SP1 TS server as domain
admin, I can see the USB HP 1505N redirected printer in the listing. If I
print a test page it works then I log off and the printers are deleted with
the session.
When I log in as a regular user, I see the printer redirected and I go to
print a test page and it doesn't get to the printer. It shows in the queue as
a job pending but never completes. If I try and cancel the job it will just
show deleting so then I try to log off the session and it never completes, it
just shows saving settings in the window. For me to get the printing working
again, I have to log back in as admin, restart the print spool service then
delete the 1505N printer from the last session that was created when logged
in as the regular user. I have a 2000 Terminal server that works just fine
whether it is an admin or regular user.
To add to this, both servers are using the same driver that is installed on
the local machine that has the printer installed on it.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions,
Thanks - JH

Sounds like a driver which is incompatible with TS.
Are you using driver version 61.036.351.00? That's the version of
the driver which is tested by HP for use on TS.

I downloaded what was available on the HP site for the 1505. I looked for
this driver version and saw no listing for that version. The only version
they show is 20070910.

I have been down this road....

I attempted to get the HP LaserJet P1505 running under Terminal Services
(2003).

It failed.

I talked to the HP Support staff.

They acknowledged the failure of the "20070910" driver for the HP LaserJet
P1505.

They told me the problem is well documented in the HP Support Knowledge Base.

The solution they gave us is to install the HP LaserJet 6L driver.

I tried the LaserJet 6L driver and could not get it to work.

You may want to try it.

Thanks Douglas,
Were you not able to get the printer to work at all? I am able to use it
fine for the admins but when a user connect, it doesn't work. I will give
this driver a try,

Thanks

Yes, but it was not consistent irregardless of Privs.

As you know, the users do not take well to inconsistent printing.

I recommended the client purchase more LaserJet 1022 printers.

They have several of the 1002 models and they work without error.

The key to success is getting the same version of the driver on the desktop
PC and hte driver on the TS server.

With the LaserJet P1505 success was never found.

Re: Problems with USB User printing in 2003 TS

Hello Douglas, thanks for the replies.

Is this a 2003 SP1 specific issue? I installed the 6L driver and if connect
to my Windows 2000 TS server, it works fine. It's only when I try and connect
back to the my 2003 SP1 TS server it messes up. When I installed the 6L
driver, I no longer see it being redirected to the 03 server. I have the same
driver on my laptop as well.

Thanks

How did you get it to work with Windows 2000 TS? I can't with using
the p1505, 6L or universal print driver. The only way I can get it to
print locally is by using the p1505 driver as well.

Re: Problems with USB User printing in 2003 TS

Which OS does your client have? I downloaded the Windows XP (which covered
2000) driver that is on the HP Website and installed that same driver on the
server. This worked for the 6L driver as well.

I ordered a 1022 and have my fingers crossed.
