Hello,

I have a server running server 2003 (x64). It is a DC (Back up) and a print
server among other things. When certain users print to a certain printer (HP
Laser Jet 4200), the program requesting the print job hangs. Then when the
user requests the properties sheet, nothing will happen. These users can
print to other printers hosted on that machine, and other users can print the
this 4200.

I am currently attributing the problem to RPC errors that have been
happening (End point mapper) on my DC and when I add clients to the domain.
As well as this error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Srv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2000
Date: 03-10-2008
Time: 11:34:37
User: N/A
Computer: DC01
Description:
The server's call to a system service failed unexpectedly.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
0000: 00 00 04 00 01 00 58 00 ......X.
0008: 00 00 00 00 d0 07 00 c0 ....Ð..À
0010: 00 00 00 00 0a 01 00 c0 .......À

0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0028: 34 03 bd 00 4.½.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
David Orazine

Re: Strange Printer Problems

Is this an SP2 box? If so, you'll want to disable RSS, TCP Offload and TCP
TopHat in the registry.

If you're on an ISA 2004 or ISA 2006 network, please disable the RPC Filter.

Finally, make sure you have loaded drivers for the OS's that the users are
attempting to print from.

I forgot to say that it is a SP2 box.

Thanks

Re: Strange Printer Problems

On the server.

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

Look for
EnableRSS
EnableTCPA
EnableTCPChimney

All should be 0.

Re: Strange Printer Problems

After I apply these settings do I need to restart my server?
