Installing Terminal Services on Windows 2008 - "Installation succeeded with errors"

I'm reasonably familiar with Terminal Services on Windows 2003, but not on
Windows Server 2008.

On Windows Server 2008 (RTM) Enterprise 64 bit, when I add the Terminal
Services Role, after the restart, Server Manager tells me that "Installation
succeeded with errors". I've copied the saved Server Manager installation
summary page below.

In the Setup Event Log, there is an Event with Source=ServerManager, Event
ID 1614 with essentially the same information, but no additional details.

Anyone have any clues about what this really means?

Terminal Services: Restart Pending

<Warning>: You must restart this server to finish the installation
process.

Full log (for troubleshooting only)
Terminal Services: Installation succeeded with errors

<Error>: Attempt to configure Terminal Server failed with error code
0x80004005. Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM
component.

The following role services were installed:

Terminal Server

It's perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.

Can you provide more info like
- What TS mode you choose to install
- Did you selected "Network Authentication" required or not

Re: Installing Terminal Services on Windows 2008 - "Installation succeeded with errors"

Thank you for your quick response.

Not sure what you mean by "TS mode". When I added the Terminal Services
Role via Server Manager, there were 5 options:
Terminal Server
TS Web Access
TS Licensing
TS Gateway
TS Session Broker

I chose only the first option - Terminal Server.

I know that a 2008 TS License Server is "required", but this is a test
server so I chose not to install TS Licensing because I don't expect to be
using it for testing beyond the 120 day "Grace Period". When/if we decide
to upgrade our existing Windows Server 2003 Terminal Servers to Windows
Server 2008, we will then install the 2008 TS License service and acquire
the require TS CALs. Also, I could not find any documentation about how to
obtain TS CALs for a Volume License (Select) MSDN Subscription.

I do get the "balloon" warning that no TS License server could be contacted.

I did select "Network Authentication" - all the expected client computers
are running either Vista SP1 or have Version 6 of the Remote Desktop Client
installed.
