Hi All,

We manage couple of servers for one of our customers.

In one of the windows 2003 servers, I am unable to do an RDP to the console
session.

The terminal service on windows 2003 with SP1 is set in remote
administration mode.

When i do a normal RDP session with out console switch it works fine and I
am able to log on to the server with out issues.

When i try to log in to the same server using RDP with the console switch, I
get the below mentioned error.

"error connecting to existing session for (id 0). the operation completed
successfully".

Since the RDP with out console switch is working fine, I am not sure whats
causing this problem

It would be highly appericated if some one can help me in resolving this
above issue.

Thanks in Advance

Mahesh

Check if any application has installed another video adapter driver .....
you can find it under "Display adapters"

Re: Unable to RDP to the Console session of the Windows 2003 SP1 serve

Hi Ratnesh,

When you connect to a machine using console (console session 0), the actual
physical console session (glass) will be assigned a temporary session ID.
When you logo off/disconnect the RDP session, the glass will still be
connected to the temporary session ID. Session ID 0 will stay in a
isconnected state forever. This makes other remote tools fail, since they
can't connect to the console session.

The console session will only reattach to session ID 0 when you log on
locally to the machine. Reason for not closing the disconnected console
session is by design. We keep it that way in case we have additional remote
console sessions with RDP coming in. It's a resource thing.

Killing the temporary session ID for the console session will make the
console session reattach to session ID 0.

Regards,

Piet van Dongen
