Hello,

I currently have a server with W2000, sql server, file server, and TSE.

So now, I'm looking to buy a new server for only TSE.
I want to buy a server for a max of 20 concurrents users.
The users use principaly 2 applications connected to the other server via
sql server.

I have the choice between 2 hardware (or more)
HP DL380 with 2 xeon processors 5420 (2.5 GHz), 4 Mb RAM, 2*146 G raid1.
or the same server with 2 processors xeon 5460 (3.16 GHz) (cost is ... 2X)

The prices difference is it necessary to have a good server ? I think no but
....

For that, I want to install W2003 standard (is it good to install enterprise
version ?) + TSE CAL.

I don't want to buy W2008 now, too young, i don't want any problem

Do you have some good site with tips to secure a TSE server ?

Thx

RE: Tips for new TSE

A newer Server will Give you better performance, depending on the application
you are loading will dertmine the CPU and memory requirements.
The only benifit Windows Server 2003 Enterprise will give you over the STD
version is Clustering ability (advanced configutations).Yes it is neccesary
for a good server, as reliability will mostlikely be needed.

My Example config would be:
Xeon @ 2.8 GHZ
4GB Ram < maxed out for the 32bit architecture>
GB Network Card
Raid 1 Mirroring (req. 2 identical drives), or Raid 5 Striping (Req. 3 or
more Identical Drives)
***USE A HARDWARE RAID SOLUTION***

To Secure The Terminal Server, Keep it behind a firewall, Use Group Policy
to restrict the desktop enviroment, DO NOT USE ROAMING PROFILES, keep the
services cut down to a minimum.

As for TS Licensing, I normally buy per user, that way the licensing does
not die with the PC , i.e. Hard Drive Failure on Client PC.
