Re: Vista with Sp1 applied
Yeah, the fixed IP address is a good solution.
I've done it that way in my home network, compelled initially by having to
open some bit-torrent ports in my router that require you to set fixed ip
addresses for the pc's.
Later on I noticed a speed in network startup because the router and my PC
didn't have any address to negotiate.
I can also recall that I had to make a tweak because the red cross on the
network icon (systray) would take some time to disappear.
I had to enable "Local Service" as owner in I don't know what (maybe when I
get back home I will find it in my notes).
That sped up the "retreat" of the red cross on the icon forever.
An IT geek told me that it was a bad idea because it opened the door to some
obscure things.
Another thing I would do to speed boot up time is to fire up "msconfig" and
see what's in there.
I would bet that Kue2 would find:
1.- jusched.exe (unnecessary updates checker for Sun Java)
2.- NeroFiltercheck.exe or some other Nero*.exe crap (also unnecessary)
3.- some adobe reader speed up program
4.- etc., etc., etc.
Later on I would use "Autoruns" from sysinternals (typing
www.sysinternals.com redirects you to the proper Microsoft site).
