I also noticed that if I boot-up & go for coffee come back & then log in. My
desktop appears right away & within twenty secs I can run Winmail & get my
mail.
I did not know that Vista continues to load, while at the log on screen.Has
this always been the case?

Yes, it's one of the features of Vista. XP needs to get more stuff loaded
before it even presents you with a login. Vista has some things that it does
in the background.

Re: Vista Sp1 applied revisted with a twist

XP and Vista will load all-user stuff while waiting for a user to log in.

Re: Vista Sp1 applied revisted with a twist

Hugh,
I'm running out of ideas unless you do your homework and check the logs in
event viewer and give us some more clues.
There must be there something that is taking eons to start or not starting
at all.
And you'd better hurry up coz in three hours I'll be enjoying a full fledged
argentinean barbecue with wine and friends, thus putting my braincells to
rest!
:)
