Move TS licensing

Greetings Experts,

I'm new to TS and have a question. Currently, we have 25 client license to
use one TS server. This server is going to retire due to lack of hardware
power. We purchased another server and would like to move these 25 license to
it. Is this possible and how to do about it? I know you have to activate the
license?

First question is where do you have the licensing server installed? If
it's on the same server as the TS server, then Vera's answer applies. If
the licensing server is on a separate server, then the answer is you
don't have to do anything.

Thank you Hank for your respond.

I just learned that the License Server is another machine. The TS server has
25 CAL installed as client mode. The boss wants to know if we could install
Terminal Server on the new machine and use this pool of 25 clients CAL on
both machines until we retire the old one. In another word, use 20 CAL on new
machine, 5 CAL on old machine to take the load off the old server. I'm not
sure if we need to active with MS Clearing house.

If the TS Licensing Server is on another machine, then the current
TS doesn't have any TS CALs installed on it (you can only install
TS CALs on a TS Licensing Server), and you can just set up a new TS
and point it to the same licensing server. As Hank wrote, then you
don't have to do anything else.

But maybe you are talking about normal server CALs on the current
TS?
There is no such thing as "client" mode for server CALs, it's
either "Per Server" or "Per Device or Per User".
If you mean the "Per Device or Per User" licensing mode, then again
you don't have to do anything. In "Per Device or Per User" mode,
only one Windows CAL is needed for any given device or user to
access Windows Server, regardless of which servers it is accessing.

Thank you again Vera. I think I understand now. I can install as many 2003
terminal servers as i want, just go to add/remove, addtional option and TS.
Then "register" them to one TS Licensing Server. We have 25 TS CALs and we
can
use them among these servers. We have separate CAL for accessing the server.
Not TS CALs.
