Also, I am unable to install SP1 & the Product Key was not accepted when
asked to re-activate VISTA Home Premium two months after the oringinal
install. Only able to activate thru phone call. Very annoying! Either Product
Keys are good or they aren't.

Get used to all the hassles of MS's DRM technologies, if you are gonna
continue using MS products.

Thanks Mark, but none of the solutions offered seem to relate to this install.

That's because Mark assumed your problem was created by piracy, not MS's
flawed DRM technologies.

Re: Problem Report & Soulutions

Mark, maybe I didn't make myself clear. Nothing described in the KB article
is in this install. Poly.sys, DRVSTORE, nothing. There is a DriverStore
folder, but contains nothing decsribed in KB article. This is not OEM
version. Where do we go from here? Obviously this is genuine copy per your
very own test report.

What is the specific information for that specific event in PR&S? There
should be a data set and a bucket number that might be illuminative.

Re: Problem Report & Soulutions

Since you seem to have so much time on your hands, kuttrail, why don't you
organize all this info & start a class action suit if you feel so strongly.
Do SOMETHING productive!

And who says that raising your voice in opposition isn't doing something?

Only those those who aren't open-minded enough to listen & comprehend.

People need to be to be taught that DRM is anti-consumer technology, that
the customer ends up paying for it along with the copyrighted material
they buy.

MS should have put its energy and its customer's money to better use,
making a better functioning Explorer for Vista, than on technologies that
are of exactly no use to any End User.

If you liked being assumed to be a pirate, all because you bought an MS
OS, that's your prerogative. Personally, any business that disrepects me
and my fellow consumers like that, doesn't really want my money.

So MS won't be getting my money. And the more MS loses its former paying
customers, the more likely they will change their anti-consumer
practices.

Do you want to be part of the problem, and keep paying MS to disrespect
you, or do you want to be part of the solution, and tell MS, in the
immortal words of Dick Cheney, to go f*$K themselves!

The choice is yours. Be a MicroSheeple, or tell MS to f*#k off!

Re: Problem Report & Soulutions

If you upgrade to Vista Service Pack 1, is this issue fixed? (That's a
honest question, but not an idle one - it looks like the fix was in SP1.)

Re: Problem Report & Soulutions

Oh, interesting - after a minor further check, it looks like the 'upgrade'
message came to you because you were running msiexe 4.0.6000, and this
should be contained in 4.0.6001, which TMK is part of SP1.

Re: Problem Report & Soulutions

That's another problem. I can't install SP1. It stalls after 13% from Wupdate
or about 75% in the stand alone. The error is 80073712. I've looked @ that
error but nothing in the article does any good.

Re: Problem Report & Soulutions

Ah, that ( ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT ) would be a different issue
entirely. Data such as--
http://itsvista.com/2007/02/kb931712/
might be helpful, but you're talking about a whole different field of
expertise now, and in that area I am admittedly much weaker, given that I've
never ran into that myself nor do I know the best diagnostics in that arena.
(Admittedly, SXS Store Corrupt is probably the definitive diagnostic, and
now you're just trying to find the best recovery method - but the above link
and the KB both cover far more than I would know, and if that doesn't cover
it, at that point you really would be better served to talk to actual
product support.)
