Hi I just received a new computer from Dell running vista basic. Everything
was going fine until I purchased a vista business edition thru the Education
Dept. I installed the business version but somehow I am now running 2 x
operating systems - Basic and Business. When the computer boots it asks each
time which system to start - basic or business - it does this on a black
screen. I have now decided I prefer home basic but don't know how to remove
the business operating system - if this is possible??
I don't have great skills with computers but I am learning (the hard way!)
If anyone can help I would appreciate it??

Re: Vista upgrade issues

You can use Vistaboot Pro to remove the entry from the boot options screen.

RE: Vista upgrade issues

Hi and thanks for your help here. I managed to get Vista basic to be the
preferred system in the boot menu but vista business is listed as well. If I
do nothing now at boot up vista basic eventually starts up. When I go to
vistaboot pro it prompts to do a backup of the BCD Registry but I am not
sure where to find the path to the BCD Registry?? Also on this program do I
delete vista business on the Manage OS Entry??
Also is there any way to remove vista business from my computer as it is
installed on Disk D (Recovery) and there is only 1.38MB of memory left on
this drive due to vista business being installed there.
Sorry to be a pest and thanks for helping an inexperienced user.

Re: Vista upgrade issues

You may save the bcd backup anywhere you want.

If you are going to dual boot VHB and VB then leave the entries alone. Use
VistaBoot Pro to reduce the wait time to boot to a few seconds.

If you are going to delete VB then use VistaBoot Pro to remove the entry
from the boot menu.

You had better contact the manufacturer of your computer before removing
files from the recovery partition so that you know which files to leave. It
will be more than just the image file used to restore VHB.

Re: Vista upgrade issues

You can right click computer and select properties. Then select the Advanced
system settings. In the Advanced tab, select Settings... in the Startup and
Recovery section. From there I think you can figure out what to do. For
example you can change the time to display list of operating systems as well
as not to display this at all and boot directly into a default operating
system. You can choose which is the default one as well.
