I have this error in the event viewer on our main DC.

What is causing this? What could this be causing?

Thanks.

The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
"Computer A" that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on
transport NetBT_Tcpip_{47B7E93F-4970. The master browser is stopping or an
election is being forced.

Don't worry about it. If you want to know more, use Google
to check it out.

Re: server announcement from client computer

Okay, I see that.. but why is it always coming from only that one client
machine? Why not others?

Re: server announcement from client computer

I got more than 800 hits on Google against the phrase
"The master browser is stopping". Some of them explain
the issue in great detail.

Stop & disable the Computer Browser service on all workstations (I use a GPO
to do this).

I usually ignore them because I know the DC or a server will win the
election over an XP, Vista, etc, workstation. Is that machine up all the
time? Is there a server on that subnet? Is the connection on the server in
that subnet having problems? Does the server get shutdown or restarted
often? Is WINS in use? You could disable browser election participation on
that machine if it is concerning you that much.

Look at Method 2:

Also, as Pegasus mentioned, there is a multitude of info on the browser
service and how it works. I couldn't think of that Microsoft KB link I
provided above until I searched Google on 'disable master browser.'

You can ignore them (they are indeed harmless enough, much of thetime), but
I don't like error messages to show up unless they're actual errors - I
prefer to make the errors go away. And simply disabling the Computer Browser
service via GPO for all workstations accomplishes this - seems easy enough
to me!

Re: server announcement from client computer

That's what we'll do. Thanks!

I agree they are harmless, but if we can stop the elections, it's less
chit-chat on the wire.

GPOs sound easier to me too! :-)
