OEM install

I am approaching an install of OEM XP x64 SP2 and wondering whether the disk
will include drivers for my IDE DVD, Adaptec U320 HDD and SVGA display.

If it won't, then what steps should I follow to install XP on the HDD?

You have to check your hardware manufacturer's web site in order to see
whether they have drivers or not.

In all likelihood, you will have no trouble with the CD/DVD you may find
64bit drivers on your system CD (the one that came with the PC or
Motherboard) if not, as Carlos says: browse the sites!

The same, for your display, if it is an on-board chip card your drivers
should be on the system CD - but do take some time and search out the newest
drivers for all the hardware. Anything that comes in a package may be more
than 6months old, counting from the day you recieve it.

The Adaptec may be a stumbling block - definitely check the site for
resources, and make sure you look for drivers for the exact model and that
it is all 64bit!!!

And remember, that Microsoft only ships drivers that was offered for
shipment by the device manufacturer. MS does not write drivers!

Sorry guys, I failed to clarify that I am concerned about drivers on the XP
disk. In order to install XP and then copy drivers from other sources, MS must
supply drivers to write to whatever display adapter and hard drive are present.

In a previous life, if the necccessary drivers were not present on the operating
system install CD, I could copy the drivers from other sources to the install
floppies.

I was hoping you could assure me that XP x64 will install without drama on my
SCSI HD with Adaptec controller.

I'm sorry, no such probabillity can be assured. Most of the time - and with
most adapters, you should be O.K. - And Adaptec may well have supplied
drivers for inclusion to the XP installation for a large number of their
products, but for any specific product you just don't know unless you have
the product in your hand.

For on-board support, the driver should be on the system CD - for IDE and
PCI cards it's pretty much blowing in the wind - you are largely on your
own.

As before, check Adaptecs driver support page - if the driver does exist,
there is a substantial probability that it will be included with the XP
installation.

On all of my XP Pro x64 installations I have had to download and install
drivers from the mfg's websites. Most of my devices are newer than the XP
Pro x64 bits and there was no way the drivers could be on the cd. In any
case, the drivers are not written by MS.
