Hello all,

Recently we've added a brand new Windows Web Server 2008 to our network. We
have a few other server running Windows Server 2003 and therefore I'd like
to ask: is there any way to remotely manage these servers from Web 2008? We
use Remote Desktop for administration, I want to be able to e.g. do some
changes in Active Directory from Web 2008, but there is no dsa.msc snap-in.
The only solution for now is to log on directly to the DC or other server
with Adminpak installed.

In other words, can I install some kind of Remote Server Administration
Tools, but for 2008, not for Vista?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Wojciech Kowasz

Hello Wojciech Kowasz" wojciech(at)kowasz(dot)pl,

Just one question, why will you use a webserver for administration of your
domain? Better use a normal workstation with RSAT or adminpak and GPMC installed.

Re: Manage other servers from Web Server 2008

Thanks for your reply. Due to network latency (vpn) the most comfortable
option is to administer through Remote Desktop and use one of the server as
a "gateway" to the rest of the network :) The best choice is the new 2008
server as it has some new snap-ins and other management features.

Hello Wojciech Kowasz" wojciech(at)kowasz(dot)pl,

Doesn't matter if you use the server as gateway or go with RDP, the speed
over VPN will not grow up.
