Re: pdc to bdc
Hello tahreem,
Since windows 2000 there is not longer the PDC/BDC concept. So what OS do
you use? Since 2000 all DC's are the same, the difference are the 5 FSMO
roles, which can be hold by any available DC, with some rules ofcourse. One
is the so called PDCEmulator which is used the connection to NT4 domains.
If a DC fails, normally the first installed has all 5 FSMO roles and Global
catalog, you have at least the need for additonal Global catalog server and
DNS server if the DC is also the only DNS server and if you use DHCP from
that machine you also additional DHCP server.
Clients has to be configured to use both DNS servers otherwise they are not
aible to logon to the domain.
If a DC crashes and NEVER come back and this DC has kept any of the FSMO
roles you have to seize them to another DC BUT ONLY if the old DC never comes
back.
Additional you have to do a metadacleanup to remove it correctly from the
domain, otherwise you are having a lot of errors about replication in the
event viewer and are also not able to bring in a new DC with the same name.
