What is Windows XP 64 bit good for?

In my opinion, nothing!

Other than not being able to find necessary hardware drivers, this OS is
useless at this point. Downloaded yesterday Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and I could
not believe how wonderful this operating system is, especially because
it's free!!!

Now I have to ask myself why did I purchase Windows XP 64 bit? To gain
what? well, this wasn't the first time I screwed up so, to make a long
story short, I am selling my copy of Windows XP 64 bit. You think $95 is
fair asking price?

If it is worthless why do you think it will sell for $95?

Check the EULA to see if it is transferrable. It may not be.

"Other than"? Or "Because"?

Hardware and software go together, you shouldn't buy hardware that
doesn't have drivers for your chosen OS, and you shouldn't buy an OS if
your chosen hardware isn't available.

And how are your 32-bit Windows apps and utilities doing? All running
nicely now?

Certainly not, it's available on the 'Net for less than that.

I happily run XP64 on my gaming desktop. All devices are recognized,
all drivers are current, and it's fast.

I have also run XP64 on two laptops with very good results.

XP64 FUD makes me a sad panda.

Be that as it may, it's still ~$150 retail, and with all the fraud
buying OEM stuff online, you do get a premium selling in person.

I don't see any local copies in my usual circles, nor anything local on
eBay, but at $150 retail I'd probably price it at $95 and expect to get
$75 (at least around here, if you don't haggle, you won't sell anything)

That assumes it's transferable, being as it's only OEM, I'd suggest that
it's not. However, if it wasn't activated, no one can prove it was
transferred. Meh. Not sure how that would impact the price, I've never
attempted to see OEM software once the package was opened, except on the
installed hardware, but I don't deal in software much anyway.

Either ask what you expect to get for it in the first place or put it on
eBay. The EULA determines if you can sell it and if so you must certify to
the buyer that it is transferrable.

Like everything, it's worth what someone will pay for it.

Personally, I would not use it at home, because being able to access
4GB of RAM instead of 3GB is not useable with my current applications.

From a company few using applications, which are memory intensive, I
would go for it, as we have done and benefit highly from the move.

Summery:
personal usage ... no advantage
corporate usage ... if using 64-bit versions of your applications

Good theory, but in practice, at least in my area, when selling in local
classifieds, people expect to haggle. People like to feel like they're
getting a deal.

If you set your price too high, you'll mainly get lowball offers, but
very little serious interest.

If you set your price at what you expect to get and stay firm, you may
eventually sell, but you'll put up with months of phone calls from
people asking if you're willing to drop in price.

I did a test one time, I had two identical widgets to sell, going rate
on eBay would let me pocket about $80 after fees. I listed one for $100
and one for $80. The $100 unit sold in under a week, third caller took
it, I got $85 for it. The $80 unit took over three months to sell.

But then, I've sold just under $4000 in the last two months though, so
what do I know?

*Very* true -- Like I posted to Colin, you'll do well asking for a bit
more then you think you'll get and haggling, it gives people the feeling
of getting a good deal.
