Re: Open with... - How to get option back
After reading your post this morning, I really mess with things up. First, I
try right-clicking on my HP PSC 1410 Scanner under My Computer and notice the
events. There were same events as mentioned by you. Then I choose Properties
and there was an Event tab which is missing in your case. You still didn't
mention your scanner name. There was an option called "Prompt for which
program to run..". At that time the option was available. I click that option
and choose Photoshop and make it default by choosing "Always use this program
program for this action." and here the story begin. After that the "Prompt
for whcih program to run" got disabled and double-clicking the scanner open
Photoshop. I try different option in Event tab (which is missing in your
case) but to no avail.
Then I tried deleting file associations like TIF, JPG and PDF in hope that
it will come up with the same dialog box and will ask for choose an Event.
But my bad luck. I search google but still unlucky.
I also tried to change Scan Button Event's properties through HP Solution
Center program which installed with drivers but no results. I search the
Windows Registry for Photoshop entries but there were thousand of entries
concerning with Photoshop.
At the end, I decided to uninstall the Photoshop. After uninstalling
Photoshop, double-clicking the Scanner in my computer was brining nothing.
Good News Is that problem is being solved after restarting the computer.
After making a restart and double-clicking the Scanner brings the same Dialog
Box which was asking me "Select the program to launch for this action...".
I didn't imagine that it was too dificult to resolve this simple small
problem. It took half an hour for me to create and solve the problem. One
more thing that the option "Prompt for which program to run" is still
disable. Don't know why but I think Microsoft needs a little workout on it if
it is the feature of Windows not Scanner manufacturer's. Don't know if it is
being solved in Windows Vista.
I am not too happy to resolve the problem by uninstalling Photoshop. There
should be some simple way. If you are going to try the same then make sure
that you have the Photoshop CD in you bag. So later you can install it.
Hope this help, let us know!
