Will 2008 Terminal Server CALs install and function correctly on a server
running 2003. I don't see the 2003 CALs available any longer from reputable
vendors.

Re: 2008 licenses on 2003 Server?

If you want to install Windows Server 2008 TS CALs on Windows Server 2003 TS
License Server, then answer is NO.

Re: 2008 licenses on 2003 Server?

Can't you use your downgrade rights and install 2008 TS CALs on a
2003 TS LS, to be used as 2003 TS CALs?
That's what you can do when you install 2003 TS CALs on a W2K TS LS.

Re: 2008 licenses on 2003 Server?

That's exactly what I am trying to clarify before making the purchase. I'd
like to confirm that will work as it did for 03/2k but finding that info
spelled out directly has been a challenge at best. So, trying this route to
gain clarification.

Re: 2008 licenses on 2003 Server?

Not tested, but if it works like installing 2003 licenses on a W2K
LS, then you just install the 2008 licenses as if they were 2003 TS
CALs, and you will see a message stating that you will have to
downgrade them to 2003 licenses.

Re: 2008 licenses on 2003 Server?

The supplier told me that MS dont sell 2003 cals anymore. One will have to
install the 2008 cals using the windows media kit. Where do I find this
Windows media kit? I did not use it before.

Re: 2008 licenses on 2003 Server?

Yes, it is correct that you now only can buy 2008 TS CALs, but
those can be installed on both W2K and 2003 TS Licensing Servers.
AFAIK, the only thing you need is the license code which is printed
on your purchased license pack for Terminal Services CALs.
