Windows Vista Vista sleep problems

Hi people,

I have been having trouble with my computer sleeping.

I had just upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit from Windows Vista
Ultimate 32 bit. In 32 bit, sleep worked fine and there were no issues
with sleep. I installed 64 bit to (mostly) take advantage of all 4 gb
of my RAM. Now, I have all the latest drivers and everything is
*almost* back to normal (sleep and TV tuner (Aver Volar) don't work).
Now some of the sleep options in the control panel's power sleep applet
are gone and when I make my compuer go into sleep, my computer will
always resume with corrupt video (very many white lines all over the
screen) and corrupt sound/audio (static sounding).

My computer specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ overclocked to 3.15 GHz
4.00 GB of Corsair RAM
nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640 mb
ASUS M2R32-MVP (using integrated audio)

I would really like to get some help

Thanks in advance

-Orion

You're just lucky sleep problems didn't show up in your 32 bit
install. It is a VERY common problem in Vista. So-called "sleep" isn't
worth the bother it rarely works as advertised. I would disable it.
Totally.

Re: Vista sleep problems

Well, I use to like the sleep mode but it has it's draw backs. While it does get the desktop screen up and running faster than a cold boot, I have found that after long periods in sleep mode (> 2 hours), Vista has a bad habit of "losing" hardware and drivers. I wake it up and my Bluetooth is disabled or my devices have lost lock or my USB camera or drive suddenly isn't recognized, etc. Then too, some apps won't work right on wake up (AIM is one) and you have close it and reopen.

Bottom line sleep is OK if every thing stays stable and faster than a cold boot. But when things go wrong, and the do about 50% of the time, then you've lost any time gained or connivance as you work to get it all running again. I now just shut down for the night and boot up cold in the morning. Asi Asi. Your choice. I prefer a hassle free venue.

Re: Vista sleep problems

I just built a new computer, and this is the ONLY one that has ever had
Sleep to work right.

I did notice on the other computer (which I sold) that if I didn't do
anything in the bios on the Power Saving area, that sleep would work, but
USB Keyboard would not Wake up the system.. When I enabled a few other
things in the Power area it would mess Sleep up..

So do not enable anything in case you did.. See if that helps you. And
again, in case you have an older computer you're probably not gong to have
any success..

Re: Vista sleep problems

Adam,

Speak for yourself. I for one find the sleep mode invaluable. One example, I
record a certain radio show on the web because it's not available in New
York. It records from 1am-5am. Instead of getting out of bed to shut down
the PC, I lean over and click the sleep button. But that's neither here nor
there, sorry allyau.
