Removing Outlook Express from Start Menu

I am trying to configure my Terminal Server so that Outlook Express does not
appear on the start menu for any new user profiles. I have read and tried
several things and have not been successful (logged in with a user after each
step, verified the OE icons are sill present, deleted the profile, then tried
again after another change):

I removed the stubpath entry from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active
Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}.

I restored the above key and changed it to be HideStubPath.

I tried removing the hide flag for OE in the sysoc.inf file and removing
Outlook Express (from start menu) through add/remove windows compoents.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks...

I read that you shouldn't remove OE from the OS because it's part of the
file system.

Each time I create a new profile, I have to go in and manually delete
the shortcut....

Re: Removing Outlook Express from Start Menu

Hi Frane thanks for responding. There is no hard shortcut for it in the
default user or all user profile. From what I can tell it gets created
dynamically for each new user profile from the active setup key in the
registry.

Why not just block users from accessing the program thru group policy? That
way you don't have to remove it because from my experience, it does cause
"weird" issues w/ the system. Assuming your goal is preventing user from
using the program and not really the need of user not even seeing the icon,
right?

Re: Removing Outlook Express from Start Menu

This little issue was interesting to me so I wanted to recreate this
scenario you have.
I have managed to remove OE icon using:
To stop Outlook Express Shortcut Autocreation
Delete the following registry setting to remove the Quick Launch icon for
all new users.
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSetup\InstalledComponents\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00BB6015C}\Stubpath
Value =( ´%Programfiles%\Outlook Express\setup50.exe¡ /APP:OE /CALLER:WINNT
/user /install )
AND
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSetup\InstalledComponents\{7790769C-0471-11d2-AF11-00C04FA35D02}\Stubpath
delete stubpath entries containingfor Address Book 6 (wab)

After that in programs menu there is no OE icon.
Now the only problem is icon in personalized start menu.
YOu can remove it by forcing use of classic start menu in GPO, or remove
pinned programs settings also in GPO (in user settings, administrative
templates, start menu and task bar if I remember correctly)
After setting this GPO, in cmd gpudate /force
Voila no OE icon in startmenu :)

Re: Removing Outlook Express from Start Menu

Thanks Frane apparently the second stubpath for the address book did the trick.

I just went to the executable and set the security settings to block
"users" from using it.
