Hey guys can i get some help. I am trying to install windows xp pro 64 bit
on my computer. I cant seem to get the cd rom to read the cd on boot. i
adjusted the boot sequence with cd rom boot first. i have zeroed out my
300gb sata hard drive. i run windows xp 32 fine and I dont want a dual boot.
My simple specs are as follows.
Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition Motherboard
2x OCZ SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory
Famous Brand 700-Watt Power Supply
2x Geforce 7600 gs video card (sli)
2x Sony DVD writer
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2

I am not understanding why I cant install this OS. Some help would be nice.

Thanks.

RE: Trying to install windows xp pro 64

Hi,
If you have two DVD drives, try inserting the XP x64 CD in the other one and
boot again.
I have noticed that, if both drives are on the same IDE channel, boot from
CD works only from the one connected as Master.

RE: Trying to install windows xp pro 64

Thanks Carlos, I have tried that and many other things. For some reason I
cant seem to get the CD to read. I get the xp 32 cd to read but not the 64.
It is very strange in my thoughts. I am wondering if I need to change
something in my bios to read the 64 cd.

Re: Trying to install windows xp pro 64

There would not be anything in the BIOS because the XP Pro x64 cd is
formatted CDFS like any other cd or dvd. The bitness of the data on the cd
is irrelevant. Where did you get the cd? If it is MSDN then download again
and burn at a relatively slow speed.

Re: Trying to install windows xp pro 64

Im curious..... is it possible to install pro 64 from a dos shell? I have in
the past installed win2k and NT from the dos prompt. It seems I couldnt use
that technique with pro 64. I was just wondering if I am doing something
wrong.

Re: Trying to install windows xp pro 64

No, pro 64 cannot be installed from a dos shell, at least
not the standard dos. I suppose you could if you were to
find a 64-bit dos so the cpu would be in the correct state
to install pro 64.

Re: Trying to install windows xp pro 64

Also, simply burn the .iso file to disk. Do not try to make the image
bootable first because it already is bootable.

Re: Trying to install windows xp pro 64

Hi,
Follow this tutorial:
http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm
for burning the iso image to disc, according to Colin's advice.
It is a common mistake to burn the iso file and not the iso image to the disc.
