Re: desktop with windows 98 cant connect to cable internet
IN ADDITION:
If you still have your Win98 CD, check in
\tools\reskit\diagnose\usbview.exe or check on the hard drive using Find,
example: C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\tools\reskit\diagnose\usbview.exe.
Run this tool to see if the USB device is found, and USB is properly
installed and finding the device.
Depending upon driver availability/need and whether the modem/router came
with a *driver* supporting 9X, you may need to install one of the *universal
drivers* such as Maximus Decim Native USB. Make sure you follow the included
directions for installation.
If you post the make and model of the modem/router, we might be able to
help with the setup.

| Did you check the TCP/IP settings in Control Panel > Network to see if
it
| is setup properly?
| It needs the adapter shown, Microsoft Networking client, and TCP/IP at
| minimum. Obtain IP automatically set in adapter TCP/IP if the modem/router
| is set to assign IP - DHCP..
|
| Did you ensure the firewall is not blocking connection?
|
| How about posting what winipcfg shows [Start > Run > type winipcfg >
click
| details.
