We setup the first Windows 2008 server in our 2003 AD domain. I have this
server setup with the File Services role.

We have 1 share on this server and about 40 users that map drive letter M to
this share. About every 1 to 2 hours all users are disconnected from this
share and the only way to get them reconnected is to reboot the server. This
server is a brand new HP ML110. This is the only windows 2008 server on our
network. At first we through the problem was occurring because the server was
not activate. We activated the server and the problem continues to occur. I
have checked the event log and I do not see any entries related to this.

Any ideas on why this is happening? Please let me know if you need more
detail.

TIA

PT

This can be caused by a number of things. First, let's take a look at the
server's config to eliminate any basic issues. Please post the following:

1. Unedited ipconfig /all
2. DNS domain name of AD as it shows up in ADUC
3. Name of the zone
4. Do all the SRV records show up
5. What apps are installed on the server (Exchange, SQL, BackupExec, etc)
6. Any config modifications performed (such as for an app, security reasons,
etc).

Thanks,

Re: Windows 2008 - Users disconected from share

It is just a file server. no apps installed. No modifications. We moved the
data to a StoreVault NAS and are rebuilding the server with Windows 2003.
Theres not much info about 2008 available and I cannot justify using it if
were going to have these problems.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't had any trouble yet with a 2008 installation I
am testing at a customer's site. I would have been curious of the cause and
resolution.

Good luck!

windows 2008 share problem

windows 2008 share problem

We are facing the same problem. we setup 1 windows 2008 server as file server & have only one share on it. The users can not connect to share intermittently. When the users report the problem & on checking on folder on windows explorer , it crashes. Only solution is to reboot the server. & then all users can access it & windows explorer appears fine. What can be the problem? Nothing on event viewer. Most of the clients are windows Vista.few are XP.
