I have test environment based on Windows Server 2003 and there are two AD
servers.

My knowledge for Win2008 is limited, so for new test I'd like to migrate
second AD to new machine which will be Server 2008 and then move first AD
also to a Server 2008 (probably move roles etc...).

What do you recommend for this scenario?

Hello smith,

No problem with inplace upgrade to 2008, but at least you need SP1 installed
on 2003. Then run adprep command from the install disk against the schema
master with an account that is member of the schema admins to prepare AD.

Re: Server (domain) migration

Hi,

So, you said in place with W2008 works fine.

Where I need to run adprep, on second AD or first one?

Re: Server (domain) migration

Hello smith,

On the Schema master,by default the first installed DC. You can check if
you have installed the support tools with:

netdom query /domain:yourdomain.com fsmo
