Dear Group,

I can't find a technical monitor group, and many of you are at the
cutting edge of compuer hardware as well as software.

I am seeking an HDCP compliant 30" LCD Dual-Link DVI-D 2560 X 1600
Monitor to enable me to run Blu-ray on my computer as well as to have
higher resolution and greater size in Windows Ultimate 64-bit.

I just spoke with HP regarding their LP 3065, and I couldn't find
anybody who knew anything. I have never liked HP much, and I am sure
they just rebrand their monitors anyway. Samsung, whom I like, does
no seem to have an affordable HDCP compliant monitor in that size and
resolution.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

The best thing to do is to do some research on the web. You
should find links to various web sites with opinions on
specific monitors capabilities and how well they live up to
their claims.

Bobby,

I've been doing that. So far the HP is the only one which supports
HDCP, but it has a 12 ms access time. I guess there really isn't
anything out there yet.

I just found three more using Google and searching for 'all
these words: 30 inch LCD Dual-Link DVI-D HDCP

has taken out all the stops with a display that is flexible,
high-performance, Response Time: 6ms

Bobby,

Thank for your help.

However, according to NewEgg.com, the Gateway does not support HDCP,
so it will not play Blu-ray. It does, however, have a *much* faster
responce time--twice as fast--as the HP.

The Dell *does* support HDCP, but it is back to a slower response time
and a poorer contrast ratio.

Maybe the monitor I am looking for does not exist yet. I want a 6 ms
response time or so, a contrast ratio of more than 1000:1 (the Dell is
3:000-1), and HDCP support. Surely somebody will be making a monitor
which meets or exceeds these criteria soon.

Thanks for your help!

Bobby,

Please ignore the post below. The Dell UltraSharp 3308WFP *does* meet
all of my criteria *better than the HP did. I think that is the
monitor to want.

Thank you for your help! :-)

You really need to do some research on your own when you're
looking for products. Instead of trusting what NewEgg puts
on their web site, go to the manufacturer's web site and get
the information straight from the horse's mouth.

The Gateway monitor does support HDCP according to Gateway.

Bobby,

Thanks for sticking with me! I thought NewEgg.com was always accurate
with their information. I am obviously wrong, and I appreciate
knowing this in the future.

I think the Dell still sounds like the best deal, as Dell has a
reputation for making high-end 30" computer monitors which are really
first-rate. The Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP sounds like a new model,
which exceeds Dell's previous model in many respects.

Blu-Ray on 2560 x 1600 monitors

Blu-Ray on 2560 x 1600 monitors

I have HP 30" monitor. Love it, but Blu-Ray only displays 1920 x 1080 so it shows up in box only about 1/3 of the screen size (1920 x 1080). After contacting Cyberlink, found this is a limitation of Blu-Ray. (DVD's, Sat TV and HD mpegs recorded from Satellite upscale fine)

I switch Blu-Ray over to TV displays fine as TV is 1080p native resolution.

Re: Blu-Ray on 2560 x 1600 monitors

Re: Blu-Ray on 2560 x 1600 monitors

I have a HP 3065, but I don't have any Blu-Ray and I am not experienced with
media stuff. The nice thing about it, though, is that the 'native'
resolution works very well for me and anything I run that doesn't match the
native resolution is automatically scaled to the nearest resolution it can
handle.

This mostly means (my own personal experience) that picking a lower
resolution of a format that matches the monitor will scale almost perfectly,
with possible minor variations from some app's prefering 59Hz and others
displaying in 60HZ.

Have you tried setting the Blu-Ray player to display in 1280 x 800 (half
size)? This should allow (I think) the monitor to scale to a full screen
display. This probably means that you'll loose some of the HD quality, if
Cyberlink is correct about the limitation, but you should be able to get a
full screen display and HD will be much less impacted from the scaling
effects than any non-HD and/or non-Blu-Ray!

Also, your Graphics driver may interfere with the native resolution - if you
have nVidia, I think you should experiment with the configuration, and
scrutinize the documentation. I don't know about ATI - but it is probably
much the same thing.
