Hi,
My Windows 2003 server appears to running as usual. How can I regain access
to the desktop? Any ideas anyone?
Thanks,
IT

You could remove the (probably corrupt) profile and let it create a new one.

Right. I thought about that. The only problem I have is I can't even log
back in (direct connection with keyboad and mouse or via RDP) because the
login screen is stale. I have not try force reboot yet. I have a feeling
that the server won't response eight.

Try a remote reboot from another server or an XP client (with the
shutdown command), then connect to the file system (the C$ share)
and delete the profile.

Re: RDP stucked in "loading your settings" forever

Vera, I've already tried that with RDP and VNC Viewer. I can connect to the
default file share (C$) without any problem though.
I used psshutdow.exe and got this:

--------- E:\PsTools>psshutdown -f -o \\PW-fp2

PsShutdown v2.52 - Shutdown, logoff and power manage local and remote systems
Copyright (C) 1999-2006 Mark Russinovich
Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com

Error communicating with psshutdown service on PW-FP2. The system may
not have been shutdown:
The pipe has been ended.------------------

So I'm totally stuck. Help please.

Re: RDP stucked in "loading your settings" forever

Seems you need to walk over to the server and do a hard reboot.
After that, connect to the C share and delete the profile.

RE: RDP stucked in "loading your settings" forever

I had to do a hard reboot and things were back to normal.
Doee anyone know what port or services PSSHUTDOWN.exe uses? I keep getting
this error message when I issue this commande:

E:\PsTools>psshutdown -f -o \\pw-fp2

PsShutdown v2.52 - Shutdown, logoff and power manage local and remote systems
Copyright (C) 1999-2006 Mark Russinovich
Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com

Error communicating with psshutdown service on PW-FP2. The system may
not have been shutdown:
The pipe has been ended.

It wasn't able to communicate with this server. However, this command works
on other machines without an issue.
Thank you for your input,
