I recently found this entry in my startup list.
I edit that list regularly because far too many programs are added
that do nothing but overload my system resources. I remove all but
the absolute necessary. If I want to use a program, I open it, I do
not want this junk loaded when I am not using it.
Anyhow, I found the following....
C:\Windows\System\KB918547\KB918547.exe
Immediately I suspected a virus or spyware, and disabled it.
Doing a websearch, I found that this is something that was most likely
added by Microsoft when I did an upgrade to Win98. I did recently get
a few upgrades, so hopefully that's what it is. I ran a virus and spy
check anyhow, and found no problems.
What I could not find on the websites was what this KB918547.exe does
or what it's for. I have not re-enabled it in my startup entries,
since it does not appear to do anything. If it serves any purpose at
all, there is no indication. Therefore I see no reason to load it at
startup and thus eat up resources.
Does anyone really know what this thing is for? Does it serve any
real purpose?
Thanks
