Is there a 4MB memory limit on Windows 2003 server? I just upgraded a
Dell PE 2850 that had 1GB RAM to 9GB and all the memory shows up in
BIOS, but in Windows it only shows 4GB. Is there something that needs
to be changed in Windows to see all the RAM? TIA.

RE: Windows 2003 server memory limit

Standard Edition tops out at 4MB. Upgrade to Enterprise Edition.

Windows Standard 32 bit edition max is 4GB.

If Standard & x86, then yes, there's a 4GB limit.

Re: Windows 2003 server memory limit

Incase you are running an Enterprise Edition and still not seeing the RAM
over 4 GB, you would need to add the /PAE switch in the Boot.ini. Generally,
servers having hot add memory support, load the PAE kernel, but if not then
would be needed.

When I am tried to do the upgrade, using the June 2006 license media,
which I am told is the newest, I get the message:

Windows Upgrade Compatibility
Setup cannot continue because the version of windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD.

Does anyone know of a work around for this? TIA

You most likely have installed a service pack on the Standard edition that
is not slipstreamed into the CD/ Enterprise version. If you want to in place
upgrade you need media that is at the same SP level or higher.

I can't confirm or deny the June 06 media (VL), but that doesn't seem right
to me.

The other alternative would be to de-install SP2. See the readme.
