Unfortunately this is not so: Using ntbackup is a bit of a chore at
the best of times and quite demanding when it comes to using
multiple backup tapes.
If this was my show then I would avoid situations that require
more than one tape. It's just not robust enough. There is a good
chance of something going wrong during the tape change process,
and if the first tape of a tape set is flawed then all subsequent tapes
become useless. Much better to use a single backup medium.
Whatever method you use, remember these iron rules:
- A backup process is useless unless a full test recovery is
made right at the beginning and then once or twice a year.
- To have a reliable backup it is mandatory to examine the
backup report regularly, e.g. once every 8 days. This is
easily automated by sending yourself an EMail message with
the report attached.
