Terminal Services and Internet connection speed

Good evening,

I have a question regarding upload speed (Internet connection): A colleague
of mine suggests that the upload speed of the Internet connection (where the
Terminal Server resides) is irrelevant. I contend that the upload speed is
relevant and important.

Example: A company has one terminal server in it server closet. External
Users from around the US access it. Let's just say that they are basic
users (Office 2007 with some MS Word and MS Excel and MS Outlook) and some
basic printing. Let's say that there are 20 such users and that the
hardware of the TS box is really quite sufficient. Furthermore, the
Interney connection in that office is 3mbps down and 768kpbs up. Just to be
clear - let's say that all of the users around the country have the same
speed. I contend that upping the upload speed of the company's Internet
connection would be beneficial to the end-user experience.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Cary

Re: Terminal Services and Internet connection speed

maybe you're using to high color depth and your upload bandwidth is not to
high.
Network connection is relevent.
limit color depth to minimum, 256 colors (8bit)

1.Open Group Policy.
2.In Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components,
Terminal Services, double-click the Limit maximum color depth setting, and
then click Enabled.
3.In the Color Depth box, click the desired maximum color depth(8 bit), and
then
click OK.

gpupdate /force and reconnect clients
let us know do you have now better user experience.

Additionally, you can tell your clients "I've upped my upload speed, so up
yours!" LOL...

Depending upon the amount of users and their printing habits,
upload speed is way higher on the scale than download speed.

Your colleague may have made the statement because there were
only three or less users on the system. In this instance, upload
speed would not be an issue.

Using your example though, upload speed is definitely important.
