We currently have a 5 computer peer-to-peer workgroup at our office. When
someone travels and wants to get files off one the computers they use remote
desktop which our router is currently forwarding to a vacant computer.
Unfortunatly two/three people cannot get into the computer at the same time.
IS it possible to purchase Windows Server 2003 Standard, add a 5 count
terminal server cal and deploy this in the network with changing the
workgroup settings (ie... I dont want to have to set up a domain). Thanks!!!

In a word, yes.

That is the perfect solution if you can afford it. No domain necessary. The
thing to remember is not to store "data" on the TS. Since everyone will be
logging onto the TS (not only admins) you need to build the TS to be
"disposable". If someone trashes it, you can then just rebuild it without
worrying about "data".

Are there any techincal whitepapers that would assist me in setting this
terminal server up the way I specified? I have bought Windows 2003 Server & a
five user services cal. Thanks

Well, there are some whitepapers and other tutorials all over the net. I
haven't looked for them in a long time so maybe someone else can provide
some useful current links.

One thing about CALs. The 5 Client Access Licenses that come with Server
2003 are NOT TS CALS. You need to buy separate TS CALs. I recently hit the
web and found a 3-pak TS CAL license for about $1000. So... these CALs are
not trivial in price. Just FYI...
