1. HP DL380 with teamed adapter
2. Windows 2003 R2 SP2
3. Setup Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1

and i get errors (up to 4) in System event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10016
Date: 21.05.2008
Time: 9:08:31
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: VS1
Description:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch
permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{DA3111BC-1BD7-4884-A535-8470D36028F7} to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID
(S-1-5-18). This security permission can be modified using the Component
Services administrative tool.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Result: VS is working but network do not work in Virtual machines (no pings)!

(I check DCOM security permissions for "Virtual Server" with another good
server and it indentical.)

I assume, that setup gives the error because of DCOM permission restrictions
for SYSTEM account entered by SP2.

Any offers?

Re: Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 setup error

Thanks for reply!

As the error arises during installation I cannot set the right permission to
not existing object (DCOM "Virtual Server" by means of dcomcnfg) in advance.

It is possibly necessary to change the default DCOM permissions for SYSTEM
account...

Re: Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 setup error

Thans for help!

Now i resolve the error (id 10016) by add SYSTEM account in "Distributed COM
Users" group. Setup now passes without errors.

But main problem has remained! VMs not have ping throu external network
adapter.
As I mentioned my server is HP DL380 with teamed adapter.
Had somebody a similar situation?

Re: Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 setup error

Hello,

Based on some research, I found that this network connectivity problem may
be caused by the team adapters. Ioannis shared some information on how to
resolve this in the following article, hope this can help:

http://www.aspdeveloper.net/Virtual_Server_2005/rn-738-13575_Solution_to_Bro
adcom_Adapter_Teaming_Issue.aspx
Besides, you may need to contact the hardware manufacturer for more details
on this. Please take a look at the following article for more detailed
information on this:

Network adapter teaming and server clustering:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254101

Additionally, you can send the Virtual Server related questions in our
Virtual Server newsgroup, so that members who regularly use the newsgroup
can share some information with you:

Thank you for your understanding.
