Mowgreen,

I know this has taken me a long time (access opportunity to friend's PC
being a problem), but, tonight I have managed to fix his 2 problems and
wanted to let you know & say thanks again for your help in the early days.

I had been going around in circles trying everything I could find referring
to a solution, which turned out to be - -

In his Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties, the DNS server addresses
setting had become altered (we don't know how) to :- "Use the following
DNS server addresses" (and a server address entered), I changed this to
"Obtain server address automatically" and we can now use Windows Update
successfully.

After trying several bits of advice about his System Restore problem, I
finished up
deleting all his restore points, restarted System restore and it is now up
and running again.

I know this may be simple stuff to many, but it hasn't been for me.

As much as anything, it was your initial help and advice which locked me in
to solving friend's problems, so, thank you once again.

You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error 0x80072EE7," "Error
0x80072EFD," "Error 0x80072F76," or "Error 0x80072F78" error message
when you try to use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update
Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941

0x80072EE7 means there's a connectivity issue. Basically, the server's
name could not be resolved.

The PC in question was able to connect to the update servers because of
the connection it was at PC World.
So, how is their setup different from your friend's setup ?

Is their a home network involved and is it wired or wireless, what
firewall is the system using, is there any antivirus/popup/cookie
blocking software installed that may be causing the connectivity issue,
etc. ?
