Hi all,
We are going to upgrade our domain from W2k to W2k8 in the next few
months. We are deciding whether we should go for the 64-bit edition,
or just stick with the 32-bit edition? I want to use the servers for
other programs, such as Sophos antivirus management, and a possible
print server on the domain controllers. We are not using Vmware etc
currently, so we got good machines and want to use those machines as
much as possible. We have around 200 users.
My questions are:-
1. If we install printer drivers onto the machine using add new
printer, in a 64-bit environment, will I need to find XP 32-bit
drivers as well and install them manually?
2. Is it safe to have 32-bit software on a DC running a 64-bit
operating system? This software will include Sophos, WSUS etc.
3. Some of the software requires MS SQL Server 2005 Express edition.
Will this be ok to go on the domain controller?
I still need convincing to go for 64 bit.
Thanks.
Andrew.
