I am running Windows 2003 Standard Server with Service Pack 1. I am trying to
update it to Service Pack 2, but have run into problems with it. I have first
tried updating it via the Windows Update website, it is able to download but
does not install, it comes back with an error code of 0x80242000. I have then
downloaded the Service Pack and tried. It is able to go through the
extraction of the files, but once it has finished, it stops and disappears
and deletes the temporary folder it has created. I have checked the Task
Manager to see if it is still running, but it is not.
To troubleshoot this problem, I have rebooted the server and tried another
basic update that also extracts, but that does not work either. There is
nothing in the event log.
I have gone onto the Windows Update Newsgroup, but they said to try what I
have already tried and then said to go onto the WSUS newsgroup. I know this
is not the WSUS newsgroup, but I am not sure that is the right place as I am
not using WSUS.
If anybody could help me with this problem, I would really appreciate it.
