I don't have much experience with TS CALs but due to us running out
recently I had to get up to speed on them, however I have a query if a
more experience user out there can help.

This page: http://www.msterminalservices.org/articles/Terminal-Services-CAL-Allocation-Process-Part1.html

states that:

The license server runs a process every 24 hours to recover CALs that
have expired and place them back into the pool.

But when I look in the TS Licensing UI I see CALs there that have
expired recently and even ones that expired years ago.

Does that mean that CAL recovery is never being run on these license
servers and if so what is the best troubleshooting method for this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

cw

Re: CAL queries

Your server might have hit a bug in the OS where if Microsoft's Volume
Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is running on the system, it could stop the thread
in TS License Server that reclaims expired licenses.

You can try stopping and restarting TS License Server - it will restart the
thread, and, if the bug is the culprit, expired license will soon be put
back into the pool of available licenses

Check if it works
